92 Students Inducted Into SUNY Oneonta Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma

A total of 92 students were inducted into the SUNY Oneonta chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national scholastic honor society for college freshmen, during a ceremony in the Sanford Auditorium of the college's Instructional Resource Center on Sunday, May 5. With 330 chapters nationwide, Phi Eta Sigma promotes excellence through recognition programs and scholarship competitions. New members qualify by achieving grade-point averages of at least 3.5 during their first year in college. Phi Eta Sigma, one of the longest-standing freshman honor societies in the country, was founded at the University of Illinois in 1923. Chartered in 1994, the SUNY Oneonta chapter is advised by Dr. Kenneth Johnson, Associate Professor of Geography. The induction ceremony was conducted by Dr. Kenneth Johnson, Faculty Advisor; Katie Sheehan, Chapter President; Allison Ryley, Vice President; Carrie Safford, Secretary; and Kimberly Brooks, Treasurer. The guest speaker was Dr. Steven Perry, Vice President for Student Development. Each inductee was awarded a certificate and a membership key issued by the national headquarters of Phi Eta Sigma. More than 4,000 University of Rhode Island students are named to the Dean's List

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that 4,042 undergraduates have qualified for the Spring 2012 Dean's List. The students represent nearly all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, and many other states and nations. To be included on the Dean's List, students must have completed 12 or more credits during a semester for letter grades with at least a 3.30 quality point average.
